6. Creating a Culture of Market Food Safety

Farmers markets, farmstands, foodhubs, and CSAs are a great place to get fresh, local foods into the hands of your community by selling directly to customers.  As market vendors and managers, we have a duty to protect our communities. Food safety is a shared responsibility between governments, producers, and consumers.. and everyone else! Everybody has a role to play from farm to table to ensure the food we consume is safe and reliable. There are safe, effective ways to handle food at the market so your customers remain healthy and happy, and return to buy more! We’ll share food handling best practices that can be shared with your vendors, and regulatory information that is important to know, such as cottage food laws and permitting.
